Mark Uckert, age 56, of Clear Lake, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at his home near Clear Lake.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, July 17th , at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clear Lake. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. on Monday, July 16th at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church with a scripture service at 7 P.M. and rosary to follow. Burial will be at the Lakeview Cemetery in Clear Lake.
Mark James Uckert was born on September 21, 1955 in Clear Lake, South Dakota to parents Manford and Agnes (Makens) Uckert. He was raised on the family farm near Clear Lake and was active in 4-H and FFA. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1973. He received a degree in Agricultural Education from South Dakota State University in 1977; he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. After graduation he taught at Wilmot High School for a short time then returned home to farm with his father. Mark also enrolled in Religious Studies through Mt. Marty College of Yankton. Mark was a 4th generation farmer. He enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting; playing card games, especially whist and pinochle. He was also very proud of his family’s Irish heritage and being a Green Bay Packer Fan.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Whist Club, Farmers Union, Serra Club and the Deuel County Democrats.
Grateful for having shared Mark’s life is his mother, Agnes of Clear Lake; his brother and sisters, Joseph (Clarice) Uckert of Clear Lake, Kathleen (Don) Threadgold of South Dakota, Eileen (Marvin) Kroupa of Kimball, SD and Margaret Uckert of Burke, VA; his nieces and nephews, Richard (Jessica) and Grady Uckert of Clear Lake, Sara (Jeff) and Jillian, Dane Olson of Kimball, Kathryn (Ryan) and Dylan Rasmus of Waubay, Patrick Uckert of Brookings, Christopher Uckert of Clear Lake, Angela Uckert of Brookings, Maria (Joe) and Aydan, Paige, Jace Palmquist of Sioux Falls, Thomas (Terri) and Anna, TJ, Oscar Threadgold of Glen Allen, VA, Barry (Nicole) and Olivia, Alec Threadgold of Carrington, ND, Laura (Duane) and Brady, Ty, Jackson Barringer of Fairfax, VA, Ann (Michael) and Pierce Riggs of Lakeville, IN, Joan (Willy) Edwards of Tucson, AZ, Theresa (Cole) and Isabel Weckerly of Hurdsfield, ND, Katie Threadgold, student at the University of Kentucky, James Kroupa of Kimball, Michael Kroupa of Kimball and fiancé Nikki Hojer , Christine Kroupa of Omaha, NE, Ann Kroupa of Brookings , Mary Kroupa of Kimball; his aunts Elaine Uckert Dutcher of Mankota, MN, and Mary Fox Makens of Sioux Falls, SD, and numerous cousins.
He is preceded in death by his father, Manford; two brothers, Daniel and Charles Uckert.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Mother of God Monastery of Watertown, Sunday TV Mass – Sioux Falls Catholic Diocese, or the South Dakota 4-H Foundation.
