Viola Rust, age 87, of Clear Lake, SD, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 in the Deuel County Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012 in the First Baptist Church of Clear Lake, SD. Burial will be in Goodwin Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, June 22nd from 5 – 7 p.m. in the Houseman Funeral Home, Clear Lake.
Viola Dorothy Rust was born on May 11, 1925 to Leslie W. and Myrtle E. Gardner on a farm near Goodwin, SD. In 1944 Viola graduated from the Goodwin High School.
Viola was united in marriage to Robert Rust and in 1950 they welcomed a son, Gary, to their family. Later, Viola stayed on the farm with her mother and brother, Harvey, until moving in to Clear Lake, SD with her mother in the late 1980’s. Viola passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 in the Deuel County Good Samaritan Center at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 9 days.
Viola was a long time member of the Baptist Church in Goodwin and when it closed, she transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church in Clear Lake. She was a charter and life member of the John H. Larson Auxillary 636.
Viola’s hobbies included doing ceramic work, scrapbooking, reading, baking, and she especially enjoyed playing dominos and board games with her grandchildren.
Viola is lovingly remembered by her son, Gary (Arlys) Rust of Sioux Falls, SD; two granddaughters, Cheri (Charles) Selleck of White, SD and Jennifer Olson of Brandon, SD; one grandson, Courtney (Jacqueline) Rust of Lennox, SD; ten great-grandchildren: Austin Lovre, Olivia Selleck, Hope Selleck, Abbey Selleck, Jackson Selleck, Ethan Olson, Isaac Olson, Mitchell Rust, Ashlynn Rust and Lincoln Rust; many cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends, Beverly Hamann, Shirley Ensberg and Tammy Canaan.
Viola is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Harvey Gardner and sister, Vera Mae Morris.
