Loretta Meyen, age 87, of Gary, SD died Saturday, March 10, 2012 in the Deuel County Good Samaritan Center, Clear Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2012 in St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Gary, SD. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Gary, SD. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 pm prayer service, on Wednesday, March 14th, in St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Gary and will resume Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Loretta Marie Meyen was born on January 27, 1925 to Adam and Anna (Wiser) Keimig in the family home in Nebraska. She moved as a child with her family to Canby, MN where she received her education.
Loretta was united in marriage to Marvin Meyen on February 27, 1946 in St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Canby, MN. They lived and farmed near Canby and Gary, SD. Loretta worked at home health and at the Canby Bakery for several years. After they retired, they moved into Gary. Marvin passed away on December 19, 2004. Loretta remained in Gary until May of 2009 when she entered the Deuel County Good Samaritan Center in Clear Lake, SD. Loretta passed away there on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 12 days.
Loretta belonged to St. Peter’s Catholic Church Altar Society. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of a card club. Loreeta also enjoyed walking, gardening and loved her grandchildren.
Loretta is lovingly remembered by her three sons: Howard Meyen, Harold (ArLoa) Meyen and Ron Meyen, all of Gary, SD; three grandchildren: Dustin, Alicia and Michelle; three great- grandchildren: Levi, Grace and William; one sister, Bernita Weber and many nieces and nephews.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Meyen; parents; three brothers and three sisters.
